What are the benefits of fully active B-Complex vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, Biotin (B7), B9, B12)?

Fully Active B-Complex (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, Biotin (B7), B9, B12) Benefits:

myPEAK Wellness contains the fully active B-complex vitamins, including B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, and B12, crucial vitamins for metabolism, health, and energy production. In addition, each has its own benefits.

Vitamin B1 (as thiamine): Thiamine plays a role in many metabolic reactions in the body such as glucose breakdown and branched-chain amino acid metabolism.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): Riboflavin produces FAD+, an important energy carrier in the body that helps produce ATP, the energy currency of our cells.* Riboflavin is also a necessary cofactor for the de novo synthesis of NAD+ from tryptophan as well as methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase, an enzyme which is crucial for the recycling and function of folate (vitamin B9) [96-98].* In addition, riboflavin plays an important role in recycling the toxic byproduct homocysteine from the blood [98].*

Vitamin B3 (niacin): Niacin comes in several forms. Niacin increases levels of NAD+ either from niacin/nicotinamide or the salvage pathway via niacinamide. NAD+ is another important energy carrier as well as cofactor for the longevity genes known as the sirtuins. We use two forms of niacin in our formulation to support healthy NAD+ levels.

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid): Pantothenic acid helps turn food into fuel for the body as an important molecule known as coenzyme A and can help maintain a healthy digestive tract.*

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxal-5-phosphate): Vitamin B6 is a crucially important B vitamin. During development, B6 plays a role in brain development.* Vitamin B6 also serves as an essential cofactor in the production of GABA, a calming neurotransmitter, serotonin, a crucial neurotransmitter for mood and sleep, and dopamine, a vital neurotransmitter for motivation and mood.* Our vitamin B6 is found in the active form pyridoxal-5-phosphate, rather than the more commonly used pyridoxine HCL. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate is a safer form of vitamin B6 since it does not have to be activated by the liver and is not associated with the side effect of sensory neuropathies of its counterpart pyridoxine at higher doses [99].* It may also have increased benefits on neurological function in comparison to pyridoxine [100-101].* In addition, pyridoxine has been shown to actually inhibit the active form, pyridoxal-5-phosphate which may explain its side effects [99].* Highlighting our commitment to safety, we make sure to use pyridoxal-5-phosphate in all our supplements so the risk of any adverse effects is minimized.* Pyridoxal-5-phosphate is also a cofactor in the synthesis of NAD+ via the de novo synthesis pathway and increased NAD+ serves as a cofactor for sirtuins.*

Vitamin B7 (biotin): Biotin has benefits for your skin, hair, and nails as well as metabolic reactions in the body.* Biotin is a component of carboxylation enzymes as well as the function of over 2000 human genes [102].* Mitochondria also utilize biotin for energy production.*

Vitamin B9 (Activated Calcium 5-Methyltetrahydrofolate): Our folate is found in the active methylated form, which is crucial since up to 40% of the population or more has a genetic mutation not allowing them to convert folate to its active form efficiently. Folate is an essential vitamin for pregnant women, healthy DNA synthesis, repair, and expression, as well red blood cell production.* Healthy levels of folate in the brain can play a role in a healthy mood and synapses and the activated form is crucial for the production of mood neurotransmitters in the brain.*

Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin): An essential vitamin, vitamin B-12 supports red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, energy production, and nerve function.* The body can store up to 3-4 years’ worth of B12 in the liver. It is an essential component of myelin, the sheath around our nerves that helps them effectively transmit signals across their axons. Vitamin B12 can also support healthy energy, mood, and memory.* It is also crucial for the detoxification homocysteine from the body.* Our B12 of choice is methylcobalamin, the active form in the body compared to lower quality cyanocobalamin forms commonly found on the market.*
